Fall for the forest

For all the beauty and variety it holds, Horsh Ehden Nature Reserve, contains 40 per cent of the plant species in Lebanon. The change of seasons in autumn, transforms this forest into a natural spectacle!

This Sunday, November 11th, Moon Monkey is going up towards the North Western slopes of Mount Lebanon, digging deeper into its wilderness at Horsh Ehden Nature Reserve.

 

About the Reserve//

“Horsh Ehden forest is a unique assemblage of conifers, deciduous and evergreen broadleaf trees in an isolated region with a highly varied topography. Three of the nine bio-geographic zones recognized in Lebanon are represented in Horsh Ehden Natural Reserve, thus contributing to its nationally important biodiversity :1058 species of plants including 39 species are trees such as Cedars, oaks, juniper, and pine, 26 species of mammals, 156 species of birds, 300 species of fungi and 23 amphibians.”

 

About the Hike//

The hike starts at 1420 m above sea level at the reserve entrance. We then go upwards, reaching Ain el Naasa at 1550 m. “Jouar el Jafieh” leads us inside a forest of huge and chaotic Cedars. After that, we reach Tallet el Snoubar or the hill of pine, looping back to the starting point.

/ Let’s meet and ride!

We will meet up at Bou Khalil– Jbeil, at 8:00 a.m. SHARP.

We go together by cars. We can share each other’s cars, so carpooling is an option.

 

 

 

 

/ Gear up with

 

  • • Rain-cover or Gortex shell. There is always a chance for rain in the mountains!


• Hiking shoes, hiking pants, hiking poles.

• Fleece, jacket, etc…

• 2L of water 

• Sunscreen protection

• Hat

• Garbage bags

•First Aid kit

• Snacks | Dried fruits, bananas, dark chocolate, @Taqabar, Tuna can, nut seeds like cashews and almonds.
